Participate in Phase 2

Student Survey - We are soliciting input from students in STEM disciplines at HBCUs on factors that impact your academic success. If you are a STEM student attending an HBCU, please complete the student survey .

Faculty Survey - We are soliciting input from faculty members in STEM disciplines at HBCUs on factors that impact the success of African American students majoring in STEM at HBCUs. If you are a STEM faculty member at an HBCU, please complete the faculty survey.

 

Phase I:  Qualitative Study - complete

If you are an African-American student enrolled in an ABET accredited Engineering Program at an HBCU and you meet the following criteria, check with the Deans Office at your institution to inquire about participating in the study.  Also, you may contact us and express an interest in participating and we will guide you to the university contact in your college or school.

Participant (Student) Selection Criteria

  • HS G.P.A. of 3.0 or better
  • College G.P.A. cumulative of 3.0 or better
  • Black, US Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Sophomore-Senor status include in reporting total hours completed and hours completed in major.
  • NSF defined STEM discipline (math, physics, chemistry, biology, engineering, computer science, and engineering technology)
  • At least 18 years old

Phase 2:  Quantitative Study - in progress

The Quantitative instrument (a survey) will be developed based on the findings of the Qualitative study.  The instrument developed will be available online via this site.  The survey is tentatively scheduled to be available Spring 2011.  Please continue to check the site for additional information.
